Words That Sell: 7 Copywriting Tricks to Turn Browsers into Buyers

Let’s talk about one of the most underrated sales tools out there: Words

Design stops the scroll, but copy seals the deal.

Though you don’t need to be the best writer ever (though wouldn’t that be nice) to sell, there is a little bit of magic and fine tuning involved. Lucky for you, I’m sharing some of that magic today.

These are 7 copywriting tricks I swear by to help businesses go from “meh” to “sold out.”

Let’s dive in.

1. Start with Them, Not You

Nobody buys just because you love your product. They buy because it solves something for them.

So instead of: “We’re proud to offer high-quality, dermatologist-approved skincare…”

Try: “Say goodbye to mystery breakouts - finally, a routine your skin actually understands.”

Tip: Your first few lines should answer “What’s in it for me?” from your customer’s point of view. Always lead with their needs, not your resume.

2. Use “You” Like It’s Your Job

“You” is one of the most powerful words in sales copy.
Why? Because it makes your customer feel like you’re talking to them, not shouting into the void.

Instead of: “Our fitness app has new guided programs.”

Say: “Get the motivation and structure you need to crush your next workout.”

Rule of thumb: If your copy says “we” more than it says “you,” flip it.

3. Add Tiny Details That Feel Big

Specifics stick. Vague promises don’t.

Which sounds better?

“Our planners help you stay organized.”

OR

“Our planner layout breaks your day into 30-minute blocks, so your chaos finally has structure.”

The second one paints a picture. It helps the reader see the transformation.

Even small details (numbers, textures, smells) can build trust and spark curiosity.

4. Create Micro-Yes Moments

Before someone buys, they have to believe and agree with what you’re saying.

You can do this by:

  • Asking rhetorical questions

  • Calling out real pain points

  • Saying things they’re already thinking

Example:

“Tired of clicking around a website for 10 minutes just to find a size chart?”

Your reader’s nodding. *That’s a micro-yes* and it builds momentum toward the big yes.

5. Use Power Verbs

Swap sleepy words like “provide,” “help,” and “offer” with punchy verbs like:

  • Transform

  • Unlock

  • Eliminate

  • Streamline

  • Fuel

Even just one powerful verb can take a sentence from passive to persuasive.

Instead of: “We help you manage your inbox…”

Try: “We eliminate inbox chaos in 3 clicks or less.”

Feels stronger, right?

6. Make the Call to Action Feel Like a No-Brainer

“Contact us” is not the vibe.

Instead, your CTA should either:

  • Reinforce the benefit (“Book your free strategy call & let’s map out your next move”)

  • Ease the risk (“Try it free – no credit card needed”)

  • Build excitement (“Snag your seat before it sells out”)

Think of your CTA like a good party invite: clear, confident, and a little bit irresistible.

7. Speak Like a Human, Not a Billboard

Your best copy sounds like you, not a corporate email. If you wouldn’t say it out loud in a convo with your dream client, don’t type it.

For example, which would you choose?!

Option 1: “Optimize performance through end-to-end solutions.”
Absolutely not.

Option 2: “Let’s clean up the chaos and get your systems working with you, not against you.”
Heck yes!!

Authenticity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the new competitive edge.
